A new pond can completely change the atmosphere of a garden, introducing movement, planting and a valuable habitat for local wildlife.

Sibley Landscapes was asked to create a new pond and water feature for a garden in Curry Rivel, Somerset. The aim was to refresh this part of the garden and create a calmer, more natural space, while introducing a vibrant habitat that could support wildlife.

With plenty of creative freedom over the design and build, the team was able to shape the feature around the garden itself, creating a finished pond that felt settled within its natural surroundings.

Creating a new wildlife pond

The main focus of the project was the construction of a new pond and outdoor watercourse, designed to add character to the garden while creating new opportunities for wildlife.

The clients gave Sibley Landscapes free rein over the design and build, allowing the team to take an inventive approach and develop the feature as the work progressed. Although relatively small in scale, the project provided an opportunity to combine garden landscaping with the more natural qualities of water and planting.

The result was a dedicated area of the garden with a noticeably calmer feel and a stronger connection to the surrounding landscape.

Using planting to bring the pond to life

Planting formed an important part of the finished design. Once the main pond and water feature had been created, plants were added both around and within the pond to soften its appearance and harmonise with the garden.

These elements helped strengthen the overall appearance, bringing the water and surrounding garden together to create a more cohesive, established-looking space.

The finished result

The project was completed over the course of around a week and came together very successfully.

The new pond, water feature and surrounding planting have created a refreshed part of the garden with a peaceful, natural character. The finished space provides an attractive feature for the clients to enjoy while also introducing a dedicated habitat for wildlife.

With the team trusted to lead the design and construction, the project became an opportunity to create something truly individual for the garden.
